Longevity

Longevity.  Simple title.  Commonly uncommon.  Seemingly always underestimated in it’s power and effectiveness.

I write this post to encourage, perhaps even challenge someone who is struggling with whether to remain in their current position of leadership, ministry, or responsibility.  Obviously, some situations are inevitable.  There are times when one must simply move on.  Yet, in many cases that I have observed, individuals “jump ship” too early and prematurely, generally abandoning their “job” right before it becomes easy, doable, and change begins to take place.

Reasons for longevity: stability, trust, predictability, empowerment, spiritual, maximum effectiveness.

Reasons for not achieving longevity: bored, routine, restless, distracted, carnal, unhealthy root system.

Clearly, this is not an exhaustive list, but represent a few obvious symptoms that one might be experiencing.  In my humble opinion, we are at our best after we have been doing something (a particular job, skill, or responsibility) for a prolonged period of time.  When we give up, move on, or get tired of doing the same thing over and over, day after day, year after year, we unfortunately have to start all over, and achieving longevity can ONLY occur…now brace yourself, over a long period of time!
